Cosy Secondhand Bookshops to Visit in Derbyshire this Winter
We discovered our favourite secondhand bookshops in Derbyshire and where to find them!
Hello, it’s been a while!
I think this must be the fifth time I've tried to publish this post. My mind hasn't been with it for a few months now. But I'm hoping now that the evenings are starting to get a bit lighter and there are signs of spring popping up wherever I go, I should start to think a bit more clearer.
It has been very cold recently, which makes me want to hide away indoors surrounded by blankets and keeping the cups of tea flowing. But there’s times when cabin fever strikes. So I'm trying to come up with some ways to help me get out of this winter slump.
One of those things is walking around secondhand bookshops, which is a very cosy activity. Alex and I have been to many bookshops across Derbyshire, so I thought I would share our favourites and where to find them. Please do let me know in the comments below if you have any favourites that I haven’t mentioned. We would love to visit more!
Scrivener's Books and Bookbinding
This beautiful bookshop is like something you would find along Diagon Alley! It’s set in Buxton and has five levels of over 40,000 books!
Location: Buxton
Scarthin Books
This bookshop has to be one of my all time favourite bookshops. Not only does it sell a great selection of old and new books, it also has a secret cafe hidden behind a bookcase! Not to mention, occasionally there is a very sweet cat who likes to visit the shop too, another reason to visit I think.
Location: Cromford
Peak Dragon Books
Peak Dragon books has been open since 1991 and always has a great amount of secondhand books available and most of them are reasonably priced. It’s located in Matlock, surrounded by other fantastic shops, so makes for a great day out antique hunting!
Location: Matlock
Countryside Books
This bookshop is located at the Cromford Mills, so it is in a great location to visit other lovely shops too. It is a lot pricier than the other bookshops mentioned, but I think it’s still a really nice shop to visit.
Location: Cromford Mills
The Book Shop
Located in the little market town of Wirksworth this beautiful bookshop offers a good collection of secondhand books for a good price. Pair this bookshop visit with a walk around Wirksworth which has a number of independent shops, cafes and pubs to explore.
Location: Wirksworth
Thanks for reading!
Kayleigh
I am visiting Derbyshire in April, and this is just what I needed. I loved Scarthin books but the others are new to me, so I am delighted!
